About The Artist

In a nutshell…here’s me: My name is Rachel Southmayd. I think I got my very first camera when I was about 4 or 5 years old and I’ve been taking pictures ever since! I am from a large family and I do mean large…I am one of eight children! I have had a lifetime of opportunity to interact with large groups and children and I am so grateful for that because it is a huge part of my career as a photographer. My passion for photography was passed down to me from my mother. I love the thrill and excitement it brings me to take photographs and when I get them up on my computer to edit…it’s like Christmas morning for me! I never tire of the editing and work that goes in to my photographs to ensure they look their absolute best! My greatest joys in life are being a mother, wife and being a child of God. My amazing husband, Matthew, has been a mountain of support and encouragement to me. He is a gift from Jesus and it gives me so much joy to be his wife. He supports me on many of my shoots, lugging around my equipment and taking pictures with me. He has an amazing eye for detail and has captured many beautiful images with me. I believe that a true photographer is an artist at heart, I use my camera as my medium and I approach each picture with an artist’s creativity and expression. I love to experiment and try different angles and techniques in my photography, I want to give you pictures that are fresh, fun and timeless!
